About The Film
The Tumainisha Project is a non profit 501(c)3 orphan care program committed to the rehabilitation of street children and orphans helping integrate them back into their families, communities or adoptive homes. This process takes place within the oversight and direction of the local indigenous church.

The vision of this program will be accomplished through a 3 step program which starts when the child first visits the drop in center and becomes involved in the programs such as remedial schooling, life skills education, nutrition and physical care and counseling, psychosocial skills assessments and education as well as vocational training. The second step of the process is when the child has proven a commitment and determination to get off the streets (including off of glue and/or other drugs) is consistent and committed to attendance at the drop in center and has proven to the satisfaction of the center director that they are ready for the next step in their rehabilitation, they are asked to join a transition home. At the transition home they will live with 6-8 other children under the loving care of an adult caregiver where they will be taught how to live and function in a family environment. They will also be enrolled in the local public school at this time and given the chance to catch up academically and socially. The third step of the process is the reintegration of the child into their original community. This will be done through the thorough investigation and assessment of the family of origin if any family members can be located. If this is not possible, then the child will be placed into a loving and supportive family from the local church or community. If adoption in the local community cannot be accomplished then every effort will be made to make a proper placement for adoption including the possibility of international adoption. The Tumainisha Project will be launching a pilot program in Rwanda in December 2007. This program is in partnership with Saddleback Church Orphan Care Ministry.
